Project Scope Management Knowledge Area

Project Scope Management knowledge Area

Project Scope Management processes includes all the work required to be done and only the work required

There are Six Scope management process in Project Scope Management Knowledge Area.

  1. Plan Scope management. In this you will plan all the work of the project , which you will define the scope, making sure team member planning to do right work and control it.
  1. Collect Requirement. In this process you will collect all the needs of stakeholders. You need to write down that so that requirement can be tracked and measured.
  1. Define scope. In this process you will define the detail description of the project work. Means what work you will do and what you are going to produce.
  1. Create WBS. In this process you will break down all the pieces of work which your team is going to do. This means you will keep the momentum of the project from the start.
  1. Control Scope. We already know how important it is to control changes on your project. When scope changes aren’t controlled, it leads to the most frustrating sort of project problems. Luckily, you already know about change control, and now you can use it to manage your project’s scope.
  1. Validate Scope. In this process when the project is completed you need to validate the deliverables as per the project scope statement (Define Scope). Which you had written down during define scope so that team should not deliver wrong product.

Now the Question is where these process fits in 5 Process groups. ???

Plan Scope management –>Planning

Collect Requirement –>Planning

Define Scope–>Planning

Create WBS –> Planning

Control Scope  –> Monitoring and Controlling

Validate Scope –> Monitoring and Controlling.

Plan scope management process

It is the process of creating scope management plan that documents how the scope of the project  or product will defined ,validated or controlled as per the project management plan . The benefit of this of this process is to provide guidance how the project and its scope will be managed through out the project. Below figure help you to understand the input ,output and tools and techniques of this process.

Now what are the inputs we can think for the Plan Scope Management????

Possible inputs are: Project Charter, Enterprise Environmental Factor, Project   Management Plan, and Organization Process Assets.

Now what are the Output, we can think for the Plan Scope Management????

There are two output of the Plan Scope Management. The Scope Management plan and the Requirements Management plan. Both of them help you define the scope of your project and make sure that you and your team are focused on only the work that will help you satisfy your customers’ needs. The Scope Management plan keeps you on track by detailing the processes you and your team will follow as you document your scope, figure out your work breakdown

Structures, and validate and control your scope for the rest of the project. The Requirements Management plan details the process you’ll use to collect requirements and how you’ll manage them once they’ve been written down.

PMBOK, 6th Edition, Section 5.1.3.1, “Scope Management Plan”

The scope management plan is a component of the project management plan that describes how the scope will be defined, developed, monitored, controlled, and validated.  The components of a Scope Management Plan include:
